About this Juniper Bonsai, Land and Water Pot, 5 Years Old (Juniperus procumbens 'Nana')
This example has been grown upright, giving a vertical trunk line to a cultivar that would ordinarily creep along the ground, and at 5 years it measures 7 to 8 inches. It occupies a land and water container: planted soil at one side, a sunken well at the other, a device used to suggest a tree standing at the edge of water. The Japanese dwarf juniper behind it all is hardy, tolerant of rough treatment and capable of living many years, which accounts for its standing as the usual first recommendation to a beginner. Site it outdoors.
