Twenty years of training have given this Juniperus procumbens Nana an upright 8 by 7 by 21 inch figure, taller than it is broad, in a 9-inch brown round drum mica container. The style is the one collectors have come to call the Karate Kid tree. Dwarf junipers out of Japan are the most widely grown evergreen for bonsai in the United States, hardy and long-lived and largely untroubled by rough conditions. Keep it outdoors in full sun over a coarse, free-draining mix.
