7 years old and 13 inches tall, this Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' has been trained in the traditional style that collectors have come to call the Karate Kid tree. Dwarf junipers from Japan are hardy and long-lived, and they endure a great deal of rough weather and adverse conditions without complaint. The height here gives the trunk line room to move, and the foliage is already reading as distinct masses. It lives outdoors, where full sun and a coarse, quick-draining mix keep growth tight and the internodes short.
