Eighteen years of growth stand behind this 12 by 13 by 10 inch Juniperus procumbens Nana, low and broad in a 9-inch brown round drum mica container. The drum form lifts the tree and suits a spreading silhouette. Dwarf junipers from Japan are the most widely grown bonsai evergreen in the United States, hardy and long-lived and able to take conditions that set other conifers back. It lives outdoors, wanting full light and a substrate that drains sharply.
