Twenty years of cultivation have thickened the trunk of this Juniperus procumbens Nana, now 11 by 14 by 12 inches and roughly as wide as it is tall, in an 8-inch marble blue rectangular container. Two decades of growth show most in the density of the pads. The dwarf Japanese juniper is the most widely planted bonsai evergreen in the United States, hardy and long-lived and tolerant of adverse conditions. It belongs outdoors, in full sun over a coarse open substrate.
