Sixteen years of growth stand behind this 8 by 13 by 10 inch Juniperus procumbens Nana, set in an 8-inch marble blue rectangular container. At this size the trunk line is established and the foliage masses are beginning to separate, leaving refinement rather than basic shaping as the work ahead. The dwarf Japanese juniper is hardy, long-lived and tolerant of conditions that set other species back, which is much of why it suits a newer keeper. Grow it outdoors in full light over sharp drainage.
