About this Juniper Bonsai, Trained, 22 Years Old (Juniperus procumbens)
A single Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' of 22 years, worked into a trained style and measuring 12 by 20 inches with a height of 17 inches. The species arrived from Japan and is now the evergreen most Americans picture when bonsai is mentioned, largely because it accepts pruning, wiring and a wide range of growing conditions without sulking. Age shows in the thickened base and the settled placement of the branches. Like all junipers it belongs outdoors the year round, where full light keeps the foliage tight and dense. Long-lived material of this sort rewards steady, unhurried work.
