19 years of growth, 11 by 14 inches of spread, and a height of 14 inches that matches the depth exactly, so the proportions here are unusually even. Juniperus procumbens nana is a dwarf juniper of Japanese origin and the most commonly grown evergreen in American bonsai. Its virtues are practical ones: it is hardy, it lives a long time, and it tolerates conditions many conifers will not. Grown in a trained style, it should be kept outdoors, where sun and a proper winter dormancy are available.
