21 years old, 11 by 16 inches across and 17 inches in height, this dwarf juniper stands taller than it is broad. Procumbens nana came out of Japan and is now planted for bonsai in America more widely than any other evergreen, largely because it asks so little: it is durable, it lives a long time, and it puts up with sun, wind and cold that would check a tenderer species. Keep it outside through the winter, where the seasonal chill it needs is available. Its shape is the product of training.
