A Japanese plant, Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' has been the mainstay evergreen of bonsai in this country for decades: hardy, remarkably long lived, and unbothered by adverse conditions. The trained style gives it an established outline that can be held with pinching rather than heavy cutting. Keep the tree outdoors, in an open and airy spot.
