Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' is a dwarf juniper of Japanese origin and the evergreen most people think of when a traditional bonsai comes to mind. Hardiness, long life and a willingness to put up with adverse conditions are its hallmarks, which is why it is so often placed in the hands of beginners. This 7-year-old plant is trained in the cascade style. It measures 10 to 11 inches from the base of the pot to the top of the tree, or 5 to 6 inches taken from the soil surface. Keep it outdoors.
