Rhododendron indica 'Mrs. G. G. Gerbing', 8 years old and 13 to 14 inches tall. This selection carries blooms of a clean, unmarked white, opening across the whole crown in early spring, and the effect while it lasts is the main event of the tree's year. Once flowering finishes it returns to a quieter role, the dark green evergreen leaves providing a settled backdrop for the rest of the season. Azaleas of this type respond well to careful pinching once the last flowers have faded.
