About this Flowering Fukien Tea Bonsai, 21 Years Old (Ehretia microphylla)
Ehretia microphylla comes from the Fujan province of China and has long been a mainstay of indoor bonsai. This example is 21 years old, 10 by 13 inches across and 18 inches in height. Its leaves are small and dark green, dense enough to read as a solid canopy from a short distance. Little white flowers may open at almost any point in the year rather than in one fixed season, and those that set become red berries that deepen in color as they age. Warmth suits it, and it performs very well inside.
