About this Flowering Fukien Tea Bonsai, Curved Trunk, 34 Years Old (Ehretia microphylla)
34 years of training have produced the curved trunk on this Fukien tea, a tree that occupies 11 by 13 inches and reaches 18 inches in height. Ehretia microphylla is native to Fujan province in China, where warmth is the norm, which is why it settles so readily into a heated room and performs well as an indoor bonsai. The leaves are small and dark green. White flowers, also small, arrive unpredictably through the year and are followed by red berries that darken with age.

In the ground: 10 to 12 (Plants for a Future, quoted by the Hawaii weed risk assessment); a potted tree comes indoors below about 55 to 60°F (13 to 15°C)
