About this Ficus Retusa Bonsai, Curved Trunk, 61 Years Old (Ficus retusa)

A 61-year-old Ficus retusa, 17 by 35 by 37 inches tall, with a curved trunk and branches arranged in tiers. The species is also called the banyan fig. Its leaves are small and dark green, rounder in outline than those of Ficus benjamina, and the bark is grey shading to reddish, marked with small horizontal flecks that give a faintly tiger-striped effect. Of the trees kept indoors, retusa ranks among the most forgiving, adaptable and untroublesome. At 60 years and this scale it makes a substantial piece.
