About this Ficus Retusa Bonsai, Straight Trunk, 9 Years Old (Ficus retusa)
9 years of growth stand behind this Ficus retusa, sometimes called the banyan fig, now 15 to 16 inches on an aged straight trunk. Small dark leaves alternate up the shoots, broader and more rounded in outline than those of Ficus benjamina, and the grey-to-reddish bark is marked with short pale horizontal flecks reminiscent of tiger stripes. The trunk is substantial and aerial roots may descend from the branches as the tree matures. Few species take so calmly to life inside a house, needing only warmth, reasonable light, and consistent watering.
