About this Ficus Retusa Bonsai, Cascade, 12 Years Old (Ficus retusa)
Also called the Banyan Fig, Ficus retusa carries small dark green leaves, rounder in outline than those of the Benjamina. Its bark runs grey to reddish and is marked with small horizontal flecks, an effect close to tiger striping. This tree is 12 years old; the trunk measures 10 inches while the cascading branch falls a further 13 to 14 inches. Among indoor bonsai few species are as tolerant, as versatile or as easy to keep in good order. A cascade is normally stood on a raised surface so the falling branch hangs free.
