About this Ficus Retusa Banyan Bonsai (Ficus retusa)
Fifty-three years of growth stand behind this Ficus retusa, 20 by 28 by 31 inches and developed in the banyan manner, with aerial roots descending to thicken the base. It sits in a 14-inch brown round drum mica container. Also called banyan fig, the retusa carries small dark leaves rounder in outline than those of Ficus benjamina, on grey-to-reddish bark flecked with short pale horizontal markings not unlike tiger stripes. Few trees of this age are as tolerant of life in a heated room.
