About this Baby Jade Bonsai, Trained (Portulacaria afra)

Twenty-seven years of growth have given this Portulacaria afra a substantial 10 by 19 by 22 inch frame, held in a 10-inch light green rectangular container. Known also as elephant bush, the species comes from South Africa and is a true succulent: trunk, branches and leaves all store water, which is why it tolerates a missed watering better than almost anything else kept as bonsai. The pale green leaves are nearly round and roughly a third the size of a common jade. It is an indoor tree.
