About this Small Baby Jade Bonsai, 4 Years Old (Portulacaria afra)
Portulacaria afra, widely called the Elephant Bush, 4 years old at 6 to 7 inches tall. It is a true succulent: trunk, branches and leaves are all fleshy and serve as water storage, which is why the plant copes so well with the dry air of a heated room. Its pale green leaves are nearly round and roughly a third the size of those on the common jade plant, a proportion that reads convincingly at bonsai scale. Native to South Africa, it makes an excellent tree for a home or office, where it is grown indoors.
