A young Eugenia myrtifolia, 3 years old and 7 to 9 inches tall, offered as pre-bonsai for anyone who would rather build a tree than buy one already finished. Brush cherry sets small, firm leaves on a naturally dense framework, which is what recommends it for training at this modest scale, and mature plants flower. Nothing has been committed to yet: the trunk is still slim enough to bend and the first structural cuts belong to the buyer. Keep it indoors in good light and pinch back the new growth to build ramification.
