Eugenia myrtifolia, listed in some references as Syzygium paniculatum and commonly called the Australian Brush Cherry, is planted here on a faux lava rock. 5 years old and 7 to 8 inches tall, it carries small evergreen leaves of firm texture and polished surface, and its flowers are white. Where light is generous the foliage takes on red highlights, most visible in fresh growth. It is grown as an indoor bonsai. Brush cherry accepts regular clipping, which is what keeps leaf size in proportion on a tree of this scale.
