- Outdoors year-round in full sun unless the species specifically wants shade. Outdoor species decline indoors.

- The roots in the pot are far more exposed than roots in the ground. Protect them before the first hard freeze.
- Soil
- Free-draining and gritty. Standard potting compost holds too much water and suffocates roots.
