About this Small Prostrate Beauty Deodar Cedar Bonsai, 4 Years Old (Cedrus deodara)
Cedrus deodara 'Prostrate Beauty' at 4 years old, 6 to 7 inches tall. Rather than climbing, this evergreen travels sideways, its branches running out horizontally in a spreading habit that looks rather flat while the plant is young and gradually opens as it ages. New needles emerge blue-green and soft to the touch, extending slowly and keeping their gentle, feathery character as they mature. The blue cast of that foliage is the reason growers seek the selection out. It is an outdoor conifer.

- 7–9 (a touch more tender than Atlas Cedar; some cultivars to zone 6)

- Root rot from overwatering / wet soil (Deodar is especially intolerant of soggy roots)
