About this Golden Baby Jade Bonsai, 12 Years Old (Portulacaria afra 'Aurea')
Portulacaria afra 'Aurea' at 12 years old, 9 to 10 inches tall. This is the golden-leaved form of a compact South African succulent tree, its small rounded leaves opening a strong yellow and settling to green as they age, so the crown usually shows both tones at once. Its trunk, branches and foliage are all fleshy, serving to store water against dry spells. The gold selection is not often come across in cultivation. It makes an undemanding subject for a desk at home or in an office.
