Ligustrum lucidum belongs to eastern Asia, China included, and has since been taken up as a garden ornamental in the United States. This tree is 28 years old, trained in the curved trunk style, and measures 14 by 18 inches with a height of 24 inches. Puffy white blooms arrive in late spring and carry on into early summer. Traditional Chinese medicine treats the berry as a yin tonic, prescribed for conditions as varied as chronic toxicity, a ringing in the ears and the effects of premature aging. The species takes readily to conditions indoors.
