Twenty-seven years of cultivation have given this Ligustrum lucidum a broad 14 by 19 by 23 inch frame on a curved trunk, set in a 12-inch unglazed brown rectangular container. Native to China and eastern Asia, the tree is now widely grown as an ornamental in the United States, and its berry has been used in traditional Chinese medicine as a yin tonic. Puffy white flowers open through late spring into early summer. Of the flowering species kept as bonsai, this is among the steadier performers in a heated room.
