Thirty-one years of work are visible in this Ligustrum lucidum, 9 by 15 by 20 inches, trained to a curved trunk with the branching settled into distinct tiers and potted in a 12-inch unglazed brown rectangle. The species belongs to China and eastern Asia and is now planted ornamentally across the United States; its berries have a long history in traditional Chinese medicine as a yin tonic. White clustered blooms arrive in late spring and early summer. It takes to indoor conditions more readily than most flowering material.
