About this Medium Chinese Flowering White Serissa of a Thousand Stars Bonsai, Exposed Roots (Serissa japonica)
Known as the Tree of a Thousand Stars, this northern Chinese Serissa japonica has been grown for 8 years and stands 11 to 12 inches, with its roots deliberately raised clear of the soil line to expose the base of the trunk. The leaves are shiny and green, somewhat elongated, closer to a spoon than an oval. Its habit is naturally twiggy and answers shearing by growing tighter still, which is how the full upright canopy has been built up. Small white blossoms open in a trumpet shape. Grown indoors, in a medium sized planting.
