About this Large Chinese Flowering White Serissa of a Thousand Stars Bonsai, Exposed Roots (Serissa japonica)
15 years old at 14 to 15 inches, this serissa stands on raised roots that lift the trunk clear of the soil and lend the base considerable apparent age. Serissa japonica, the tree of a thousand stars, has small shiny leaves of an elongated spoon shape and a habit of throwing fine twigs, so it grows tighter each time it is sheared. Blossom on this northern Chinese form is white and shaped like a tiny trumpet, and the tree has been trained to a full upright canopy. Keep it indoors in bright light and avoid shifting it about, as serissa resents sudden change.
