About this Baby Jade on Bonsai, On a Rock Slab, 8 Years Old (Portulacaria afra)
Portulacaria afra, the elephant bush, is a South African succulent whose almost round, pale green leaves are each about one third as large as a common jade’s. Water is held in the fleshy trunk, branches and foliage. This 8-year-old plant is 10 to 12 inches tall and is set on a rock slab, which lifts the roots and spread of the stems into view. It is an excellent beginner's bonsai and looks at home on a desk or shelf indoors, whether at home or at the office.
