About this Baby Jade Bonsai, 18 Years Old, 21 Inches Tall (Portulacaria afra)

Portulacaria afra, the elephant bush, is a succulent from South Africa that takes to bonsai treatment unusually well. Its pale green leaves are nearly circular and about a third the size of those on the common jade plant, and the trunk, branches and leaves are all fleshy because every part of the plant stores water. This example is 18 years old, 21 inches tall and 13 by 14 inches wide. It is an excellent subject for indoors, asking for bright light and a restrained hand with the watering can.
