About this Mikawa Yatsubusa Japanese Maple Bonsai, Trained, 23 Years Old (Acer palmatum)
Trained over 23 years, this Mikawa Yatsubusa Japanese maple measures 9 by 14 inches and 23 inches in height. In leaf it presents the dense, sculptural mass the cultivar is grown for, its closely set green foliage overlapping across a rounded crown; in autumn that crown turns fiery red before dropping, leaving a fine tracery of twigs visible all winter. The plant is grafted, hardy and not difficult to grow. Keep it outdoors the year round, sheltering the roots from hard freezing while it is dormant.
