About this Japanese Green Maple Bonsai, Trained, 26 Years Old (Acer palmatum)
A green Japanese maple grown for 26 years, standing 24 inches tall with a canopy measuring 20 by 23 inches. Acer palmatum asks little of the grower beyond water, light and an outdoor position, and it returns two distinct seasons of interest: the emerging foliage of early spring and the turn that comes late in the year. Full sun produces the strongest tones. The tree is deciduous, and once the leaves drop the trained branch structure becomes the feature. A patio, deck or garden bed all suit it.
Japanese Maple bonsai care
This is a living Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

- Outdoor only, all year

- A sunny, airy place; dappled shade in hot weather; indirect light once temperatures reach 85°F (29°C)
- Water
- Evenly moist: water daily in the growing season; it must not dry out completely
- USDA zones
- 5 to 8; not every cultivar is fully hardy in zone 5
- Main risks
- Main risks, not ranked by any source: verticillium wilt, which cannot be treated and spreads on tools; drying out, which damages fine roots
