About this Seiryu Laceleaf Maple Bonsai, 15 Years Old (Acer palmatum)
'Seiryu' is the odd one among the dissectum maples: where every other laceleaf weeps or cascades, this one grows upward on a strong central line. The finely cut leaves are small, delicate and bright green through the growing months. Autumn arrives in two stages, yellow and gold first, then a run of bright scarlet. At 15 years and 23 to 24 inches, it is a substantial specimen and repays a prominent position where it can properly be looked at. Deciduous and hardy, it is grown outdoors.

This is a living Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:
- Indoor / outdoor
- Outdoor only — it requires a genuine winter dormancy and will decline indoors
- Light
- Full morning sun with light afternoon shade in summer; protect foliage above ~85 °F (30 °C) to prevent leaf scorch
- Water
- Keep evenly and consistently moist — never let the rootball dry out, but do not leave it waterlogged. On the "wet" side of the spectrum.
- USDA zones
- 5–8 (some cultivars tolerate 9; protect roots below zone 6 in containers)
- #1 cause of death
- Verticillium wilt (often introduced by dirty tools / summer pruning); also leaf scorch and root drying
