About this Mugo Pine Bonsai, 23 Years Old, 13 Inches Tall (Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion')
Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion' at 23 years old, 14 by 15 inches across and 13 inches tall, a broad and low proportion characteristic of the cultivar. Growth is slow and naturally dense, and the dark green needles are carried on upright branches through every season, so the tree is never bare. Cold presents no obstacle: this dwarf evergreen is rated hardy to fifty degrees below zero Fahrenheit and should be kept outdoors permanently. Mugo pines respond well to candle pruning in late spring, the usual method of keeping needle length in proportion to the design.
