About this Mugo Pine Bonsai, Land and Water Pot, 7 Years Old (Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion')
Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion' after 7 years of training, now 12 to 13 inches tall in a land-and-water pot. This is a dwarf evergreen with a notably dense growth habit and a slow rate of extension, so its shape holds for a long while between prunings. Dark green needles clothe the upright branches all year. Rated hardy to fifty degrees below zero Fahrenheit, it belongs outside permanently, and a genuine cold season is part of its normal cycle. Candle pruning in spring is the usual method for keeping a mugo compact.
