About this Mugo Pine Bonsai, 43 Years Old (Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion')
43 years of cultivation stand behind this Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion', now 16 by 20 by 18 inches tall. Its habit is naturally dense, and the dark green needles are carried on branches that rise rather than droop, giving the crown a packed, upward-set texture that persists all winter. As a slow-growing dwarf evergreen it adds very little each season; patience is the price of the proportion it has reached. Rated to withstand temperatures down to minus fifty Fahrenheit, it belongs outdoors permanently, where a cold season is part of its normal year.
