About this Mugo Pine Bonsai, 39 Years Old (Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion')
A dwarf mugo pine, Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion', 39 years old and measuring 19 by 24 by 19 inches tall. The cultivar is grown for its cushion-like density: short dark green needles clothe upright branches and stay on the plant through every season, so there is no bare period to wait out. Growth is deliberately slow, which is what keeps the form tight without constant intervention. Cold holds little threat for it, the plant being rated hardy to fifty degrees below zero Fahrenheit, and it should be kept outdoors rather than brought inside.
