About this Emperor One Japanese Maple Bonsai, 19 Years Old (Acer palmatum 'Wolff')
Acer palmatum 'Wolff', sold under the name Emperor One, is valued for foliage of a deep burgundy-red and for the poise of its branch structure. This tree is 19 years old, 21 inches tall and 18 by 20 inches wide. The variety grows with real vigor and holds its color unusually well from the spring flush through to the end of the season, which is what distinguishes it from red maples that dull by midsummer. It is deciduous, dropping its leaves in autumn, and is kept outdoors.
