About this Dwarf Sharp's Pygmy Japanese Maple Bonsai, 25 Years Old (Acer palmatum 'Sharps Pygme')
This dwarf Japanese maple has been in training for 25 years and has widened into a rounded piece 21 inches tall and 20 by 21 inches across. Acer palmatum grows wild in Japan, Korea and China; the 'Sharp's Pygmy' selection keeps the species leaf, 2 to 5 inches long with five to seven serrated, pointed lobes, but packs it onto very tight branching. Autumn color ranges across yellow, red-purple and bronze. Kept outdoors on a deck or patio, a tree of this width makes a substantial display.
