About this Chinese Elm On Bonsai, On a Rock Slab, 7 Years Old (Ulmus parvifolia)
7 years old, 12 to 14 inches tall, and set on a rock slab of glass fibre reinforced concrete measuring 15 by 8 by 1 inch. Ulmus parvifolia holds small evergreen leaves with serrated margins, and it divides and re-divides its branches more willingly than almost anything else used for bonsai. Here that habit has been directed into the traditional tiered, layered style, carried on a curved trunk. The slab gives the whole planting a low, landscape-like footprint. Grown indoors, this elm answers regular clipping with steadily finer twigging.
Chinese Elm bonsai care
This is a living Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

- Let the topsoil dry slightly, then water thoroughly — dislikes both constant wet and prolonged drought. Middle-of-the-road, leaning slightly toward "let dry between waterings."
