About this Medium Chinese Elm Bonsai, Curved Trunk, 10 Years Old (Ulmus parvifolia)
About 10 years of work have gone into this Chinese elm, now 10 to 11 inches tall and shaped over that time into the classic curved-trunk form. Ulmus parvifolia carries small leaves and divides readily into fine twigs, which is why it develops ramification so quickly under regular trimming, and it is hardy and adaptable besides. Grown indoors it holds its foliage for most of the year; being semi-deciduous, it may stand bare for a period through winter before pushing fresh growth in spring. Bright light and even moisture suit it best.

This is a living Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

- Outdoor preferred for strongest growth; can adapt indoors with very bright light

- Full sun outdoors; brightest possible window indoors

- Let the topsoil dry slightly, then water thoroughly — dislikes both constant wet and prolonged drought. Middle-of-the-road, leaning slightly toward "let dry between waterings."

- 4–9 (one of the most adaptable elms; resistant to Dutch elm disease)
