About this Medium Chinese Elm Bonsai, Straight Trunk, 9 Years Old (Ulmus parvifolia)
9 years old and 8 to 9 inches tall, this Chinese elm has been grown in a straight trunk style, with the aged look that gives the form its weight. Ulmus parvifolia carries small serrated leaves, held evergreen, and it is valued above all for the fineness of its branching, which divides readily and holds pad structure well under regular pruning. Little of its character depends on flower or fruit; the interest lies in line and twig. The tree does very well indoors.

- Main risks
- Main risks, not ranked by any source: waterlogged soil and root rot; low light indoors; moving an indoor tree straight into winter cold
