About this Small Oriental Ficus Bonsai, Coiled Trunk, 6 Years Old (Ficus benjamina 'Orientalis')
Ficus benjamina 'Orientalis', 6 years old and 8 to 10 inches tall, trained in the coiled trunk style. This fig, native to South and South-East Asia, is particularly good for bonsai work: it produces sturdy trunks, has useful branching characteristics and carries shiny evergreen leaves. Trimming is best done in early summer, since the leaves that grow in afterward come back smaller than the ones removed, gradually refining the tree's scale. Suited to indoor growing, it holds its foliage without a dormant period.
