Schefflera arboricola 'Luseanne' carries glossy compound leaves in umbrella-like whorls above a stem wound into a spiral, and it ranks among the most forgiving subjects for anyone with little bonsai experience, which is one reason it is so often chosen as a gift. Kept indoors it accepts ordinary household warmth and light, asking for steady moisture and an occasional pinch to hold the canopy compact rather than any specialist attention.

Sources differ: keep the soil evenly moist and never let it dry out; or let the top 1/2 to 1 in (1.3 to 2.5 cm) dry first; never let it stand in water
USDA zones
12 to 13 in a pot: zone 13's winter lows of 60 to 70°F (16 to 21°C) clear the 50°F (10°C) floor of Bonsai Empire, Clemson and the RHS, and zone 12's lows of 50 to 60°F (10 to 16°C) meet it, so bring it in on colder nights there. Bonsai Mirai's floor is lower, 40°F (4°C). In the ground NC State gives 9b to 12b and BCI zone 9b
