About this Medium Hawaiian Umbrella Bonsai, Land and Water Pot, 8 Years Old (Arboricola schefflera 'Luseanne')
An 8-year-old arboricola schefflera 'Luseanne', 11 to 12 inches tall, planted in a land-and-water pot. The leaves are tiny and umbrella-shaped, radiating from each stem in the pattern that gives the plant its common name. We consider it the most trouble-free evergreen on the bench and the easiest of our trees to keep, so it is what we suggest to anyone without much bonsai experience, and it answers the question of what to give someone whose tastes you do not know. A beautiful indoor subject.

This is a living Dwarf Umbrella Tree (Dwarf Schefflera) (Schefflera arboricola). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:
- Indoor / outdoor
- Indoor in any climate with frost; outdoors only in zones 10–11 or in summer warmth
- Light
- Very adaptable — bright indirect to direct light preferred, but tolerates low light better than almost any bonsai
- Water
- Moderate — let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings. Leans dry rather than wet; overwatering is the killer.
- USDA zones
- 10–11 outdoors year-round; treat as indoor elsewhere (tolerates brief 9b dips but no frost)
- #1 cause of death
- Root rot from overwatering / poor drainage (compounded by cold, wet roots)
