This Hawaiian umbrella has been growing for 8 years and now measures 8 to 12 inches. Schefflera arboricola 'Luseanne' holds small glossy leaflets arranged like the ribs of a parasol, and its ease indoors makes it a sensible first tree for someone who has never kept bonsai before. It settles happily on a desk at home, in an office, or in a dorm room, wanting warmth, moderate light, and water once the top of the soil dries. Frequent pinching keeps the leaves small and the outline tidy as the crown thickens.
