About this Large Hawaiian Umbrella Bonsai, 15 Years Old (Arboricola schefflera 'Luseanne')
The largest of our arboricola schefflera 'Luseanne', 15 years old and 14 to 16 inches tall. Those years show in the girth of the trunk and the weight of the branch structure, yet its needs are no greater than those of a much younger plant. Beginners do well with it, since in our opinion it ranks among the easiest bonsai to care for and is a thoroughly trouble-free evergreen, which also makes it a dependable gift when you cannot judge the recipient's experience. It suits a home, office or dorm, and lives inside year-round.

This is a living Dwarf Umbrella Tree (Dwarf Schefflera) (Schefflera arboricola). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:
- Indoor / outdoor
- Indoor in any climate with frost; outdoors only in zones 10–11 or in summer warmth
- Light
- Very adaptable — bright indirect to direct light preferred, but tolerates low light better than almost any bonsai
- Water
- Moderate — let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings. Leans dry rather than wet; overwatering is the killer.
- USDA zones
- 10–11 outdoors year-round; treat as indoor elsewhere (tolerates brief 9b dips but no frost)
- #1 cause of death
- Root rot from overwatering / poor drainage (compounded by cold, wet roots)
