About this Flowering Sea Hibiscus Variegated Bonsai, 15 Years Old (Hibiscus tiliaceus)
The variegated form of Hibiscus tiliaceus is grown chiefly for its leaves. Each heart-shaped blade is marbled, flecked and banded in cream, green, burgundy and pink, while the new growth emerges a rich maroon that reads almost like flower colour from across a room. 15 years of cultivation have brought this tree to 15 or 16 inches. The markings show strongest in a sunny spot, which makes it a striking addition to a patio or garden in warm weather, though it is grown indoors and should never meet frost. Being tropical, it wants warmth and steady moisture.
